If you read the title and didn’t sing the Beyonce song, then we can’t be friends! Just kidding, but I will need to enlighten you. So much has changed for women over the last 50 years and I have to say it has left us having a lot of fun with unlimited choices. Single women no longer go to college to meet their husbands, we go to become educated and to fulfill our dreams.
Remember the movie “A League of Their Own”? It’s a great movie? Look deeper, it was a time where women took over jobs in the workforce while the men were off to war. The men came home and women just went to their daily lives in the home. My point in this comes down to a time when a woman had a very distinct role in life and to say limited choices would be an understatement. I am so thankful to be a woman in 2017, thankful for the choices I can make.
Take my friend Lea, who is just amazing. She retired from her career as an educator at the age of 37, sold all her worldly possessions, bought an RV (it’s pretty sweet), and travels the country and sometimes the world. Just her and her dogs, mainly following the summer and heading to the warmer climates. She is now a life coach and works wherever she wants. Technology has brought us many many more options and a lot fewer obstacles to achieve the things we want most in life. Essentially, we can have our cake and eat it too. She uses Haru App to make friends wherever she goes and finds those that share her passions.
No longer are we bound by the ‘rules’ or what we are ‘supposed’ to do. I didn’t have my first child until I was 33 and that was only because I decided I wanted one and then a second, but that’s enough. Two is plenty for me. I haven’t slept in 3 years! My point is that I was able to experience so many wonderful things and I will tell you more and more of my friends have decided that they simply do not want children and I applaud them.
Let’s also take a look at modern medicine. As our population continues to live longer and healthier lives, we have so much more time to truly accomplish all our heart desires! Life for women looks much different at 50 in 2017 than it did in 1977. Now those are the women you need to befriend. They are fun, free, uninhibited and who I want to be when I grow up!
To conclude, ladies, it’s our time! We can make our own rules and decide what we want out of life and not give in to what biology has set for us. Don’t apologize for your choices and ignore those who ask you to. Now get out there and have some fun, sign up for Haru App today!
